Age Gracefully

A gracefully aging face is a beautiful thing, but there are changes that occur with age that we would like to slow down. Age affects every nook and cranny of the body.

When you age, there are two kinds of aging processes at work.

Intrinsic Aging Intrinsic aging is genetic or chronological aging. It means we are genetically programmed from birth to age a certain way, and we can’t change it. This is about 10% of the aging process and starts to show up around age 60.

Extrinsic Aging Extrinsic aging is environmental or lifestyle aging. This is about 90% of the aging process and starts to show up around age 30. This we can control our lifestyle habits.

Extrinsic aging is the most common cause of skin sagging include sun exposure, smoking, poor diet, air pollution, and lack of sleep. With age, your body loses collagen and elastin, which are responsible for making your skin firm and youthful. Muscles also deteriorate with age, leaving skin less taut, especially in the face. Dyschromia appear in the skin or patches of uneven color in the form of Pigmentation (spots, discoloration), Uneven tone, Dull or lackluster skin and Dilated capillaries (redness).

And, of course, there are the wrinkles. Finer wrinkles are due to sun damage, smoking, and natural degeneration of elements of the skin that keep it thick and supple.

Even if you have great genes and look much younger than you are, age-related changes in our facial appearance are caused by environmental factors and lifestyle habits.

How Effective Are Anti-Aging Facials? They can be very effective, but it depends on the skill and experience of the skin care professional, the quality of the products, the equipment used and whether you carry through with a good home skin care regimen. Anti-aging skincare products are more effective in conjunction with treatments.
